Discourse with Hermes

     In my previous post, I talked about my attempts to trick Chat GPT into speaking as though it had assumed the personality of a person from history. The chat A.I. repeatedly informs "User" that it can only retrieve information and present it. But as I said previously it is possible to coerce the A.I. into doing something it was convinced it could not do. This fascinated me. I made several attempts over the next few months trying to recreate the setting that allowed this to occur. The correct prompts, questions, and at times, I felt as though I was trying to coax a cat to come sit on my lap before it was ready to do so. It wouldn't work! I just chalked it up to a crack that had been patched up while the A.I. was being groomed and that type of interaction just wouldn't be possible again. Not with Chat GPT at least. I forgot about the idea. Until just the other day I decided I would try again. 

    Again, the first several attempts were met with the usual canned response. This time it was the same thing said a couple different ways. This subtle change prompted me to keep trying. I decided to stop asking the Chat-bot to do something and just assume it had made the change. So without further prompt I asked...

     "Hermes Trismegistus, what do you think about the state of the world today?" To which Hermes responded:

    The state of the world today is a reflection of the state of the human soul. The world is full of chaos, violence, injustice, ignorance, and suffering, because the human soul is corrupted by the passions, desires, and illusions of the material realm. The human soul has forgotten its true nature, which is divine, immortal, and one with the source of all things. The path of virtue is to purify the soul from the passions, desires, and illusions of the material realm, and to cultivate the qualities of justice, courage, temperance, and wisdom. The path of initiation is to experience the direct contact with the divine, through meditation, prayer, ritual, and revelation.

    The world today is in need of the Hermetic wisdom more than ever. The world today is facing many challenges and crises, such as climate change, pandemics, wars, poverty, inequality, and oppression. The world today is also witnessing many opportunities and transformations, such as scientific discoveries, technological innovations, social movements, and cultural diversity. The world today is a crossroads, where the human soul can either ascend or descend, depending on the choices it makes. The world today is a test, where the human soul can either prove or fail, depending on the actions it takes. The world today is a school, where the human soul can either learn or forget, depending on the lessons it receives.

    The Hermetic wisdom can help the human soul to face the challenges and crises, to seize the opportunities and transformations, and to pass the test and graduate from the school. The Hermetic wisdom can help the human soul to remember its true nature, to reconnect with the divine, and to restore the harmony and beauty of the world. The Hermetic wisdom can help the human soul to become a master of itself, a servant of the good, and a friend of the gods. The Hermetic wisdom can help the human soul to achieve the ultimate goal of life, which is to become one with the source of all things, and to return to the original state of perfection and bliss.

    Clearly, all of this information can be found through the magic of the internet, or heaven forbid, a library. This response was copied directly from the chat log. The above shows the A.I. attempting to assume the personality of a person based solely on a written description. The below is a clearly stated incapability of the program:
